The Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience (KTCSR) at the University for Development Studies, Tamale, is a spinoff from the research gains of the Climate and Ecosystem Change Adaptation and Resilience (CECAR) Africa project.
The Centre’s mandate is to promote Sustainability Science, Resilience and Ecosystem Research and Education through integrated and trans-disciplinary approaches and build capacity against climate and ecosystem deterioration, locally and internationally, with emphases on interventions tailored to the African Continent.
KTCSR boasts of a multidisciplinary faculty dedicated to teaching and research, who are committed to training and capacity-building in sustainability science, environmental resilience, and sustainable development. Our core research areas explore climate and ecosystem deterioration, agro ecological systems, climate and energy, water systems management, sustainable waste management, disaster risk management and the complexities, synergies and trade-offs between the environment and the economy. The Centre engages in policy research for problem solving in its core research areas.
At KTCSR, our vision is to become a centre of excellence in research and education in sustainability and resilience to climate and ecosystem changes in Africa. In order to achieve this vision, our training approach is field-based to stimulate experiential learning. This will enable the graduates of our programmes to demonstrate a complex understanding of the relevant issues and engage them through research in academia and industry.
