To promote Sustainability Science, Resilience and Ecosystem Research and Education through integrated and trans-disciplinary approaches and build capacity against climate and ecosystem deterioration, locally and internationally, with emphases on interventions tailored to the African Continent.
MANDATE
OBJECTIVES
The Centre’s specific objectives are:
- To undertake scientific research on Sustainable Development Goals to inform policy and practice.
- To undertake problem-driven research within the larger context of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) framework at the local level by deepening the understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem service inter-linkages especially through local knowledge.
- To undertake problem-solving research activities on integrated natural resource management to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Ghana, focusing on forest conservation, climate change adaptation, water resources management, energy efficiency and biodiversity conservation.
- To assess the impacts of land-use change and climate change on flooding, water quality, and habitat quality.
- To address the complexities, inter-linkages, synergies and trade-offs between the environment and the economy.
- To undertake scientific research on disaster risk management to inform policy and practice.
